FREE Summer PD!

As a member of the Art Teacher group on Facebook, I am lucky enough to be able to network with other art teachers and have a plethora of resources at my fingertips. Another member of the group, Donald Peters, recommended some free professional development opportunities for art teachers here:

I looked into it and decided to enroll in an Adobe Train the Trainer course!
It starts June 29th and I'm super excited! In the meantime, I have been doing some of the self-paced workshops from Adobe. My favorites so far have been "Integrating the arts in to STEM 101: Intro to STEAM" and "Integrating the arts in to STEM 201: Creating Rigorous and Relevant STEAM projects."

I'll be sure to update on the Adobe Education Train the Trainer course when it gets going!

Speaking of PD, I have FINALLY gotten the official notification from ISBE that my Reading Specialist Endorsement was approved!
Now, my first love has been, and will always be, ART. I received my B.S. in Art Education from Northern Illinois University in December of 2007 and was lucky enough to land a teaching job a few months later! After two years of teaching I started thinking about my getting my Masters, and I began taking grad classes as a Student at Large in Art Ed through NIU. I also took some courses through Aurora University in Gifted Education and Outdoor Education. After a few years of grad classes here and there, I came across a program that would get me my Masters in a year and a half. It was offered through Olivet Nazarene University as a cohort program, and the price and time commitment couldn't be beat. I really enjoyed the Reading Specialist Program through ONU. It gave me new insights into instructional strategies and helped me to see new ways of incorporating reading into my art room. Here is a link to my final project, a research study on art + poetry:

My Adam and Friends came!!!!
This is a really cool project by DESIGN IDEAS. It's a short film contest. They send you FREE Adam the Doodles Man figurines and you create a short film! The deadline has been extended to July 14th. You can read more about the contest here: http://designideas.net/adam/contest.aspx

That's all for this week, have a great weekend!

Starting off summer with a new blog!

Hi Everyone!
Summer has officially begun, and I'm starting it off with a new blog! I've already been thinking about next school year, and have been getting in some professional development this summer.

I attended the NAEA Interactive Webinar on Implementing the New Visual Arts Standards. It was very cool to see other art educators from around the world on live webcast, and it gave me some new insights and an overall better grasp of the standards.

I have also used Class Dojo in my classroom, and recently became a mentor for my school. They sent me this sweet badge :)
If you're not familiar with class dojo, check it out here: http://www.classdojo.com/

I stopped by the bookstore and found some exciting books for the art room:

The Day the Crayons Quit will be great to start off the year, and I'm thinking that Don't Push The Button will be fun in October with monster art projects.
That's all for today, happy Friday to everyone and see you next week! :)
Have a colorful day!!
